In a hypothetical situation where it wasn't - running X server as root still wouldn't be a problem. It's not any program that runs on top of it. It's a specialized code that is expected to run on top of privileged X server so all needed security measures can be implemented there.
@xerz@theresnotime does that really count as 0 security? Running X server as root is generally a bad practice but on a camera where you can only open controlled set of predefined applications (or maybe even single app) it might not be a problem.
Any potential adversary would have to have physical access to that camera and that good enough security.
@xerz independent workshops will still use those parts.
There is also an more global effect. Many people won't buy new device until current one is out of support. Bringing current specs 10 years into the future and slowing market as a whole.
