@nuko They used to just never load, I tried looking into the problem and it's probably the fact that there are like 3 years worth of posts in the database and the postgres query at the end takes an eternity even with meilisearch almost instantly returning results 02sad
I could purge all the old posts but I don't want to. There's probably something I've configured wrong with my backup solution but I am stupid so who knows 02shrug

@bajax it depends on the place and also like 90% luck you basically just need to cram your CV with buzzwords so the AI scanning everything passes you to an actual human

If there is something fucked up in the world it can usually be traced back to general motors

@creamqueen @gray there's also the largely overblown but still happened streetcar conspiracy, where a bunch of auto companies bought and then ripped out old unprofitable streetcar lines to replace them with busses before those unprofitable entities got dumped onto the cities leaving most of them languishing like they do today.
Fun!

CoreWeave (business model: Uber for Nvidia Graphics cards) is a very funny company because they pivoted from being a crypto company before crypto exploded everywhere andsomehow managed to IPO despite being massively in debt and nowhere near profitable
Good job, OpenAI and Nvidia for propping absolute garbage up.

@gray the solution would likely be simple: discourage driving and encourage public transportation in urban areas. I believe it to be nearly impossible as it is seen as unpopular especially among more conservative/suburban/rural types as they see it as an infringement on their rights (probably correct but likely overblown imo) plus cars actually have use cases your average r/fuckcars poster is too busy screaming in an echo chamber to actually think about
Another solution would be to encourage smaller more efficient cars which already exists on paper in most places but in the US there is a massive exception which is why almost every new American car is about the size of a Sherman tank

@PurpCat @deprecated_ii @Zergling_man North Americans have always associated public transport with the poor and the desperate and I've always wondered if the cause of that is just auto industry marketing.
Also how the fuck do you have all these videos on standby

@gray there are plug in hybrids that exist (my parents have one and we live in the middle of nowhere), they also only ever charge it at home
PHEVs from what little I know of automotive engineering can be complex as you have to have all the engine parts and the battery which makes them both heavy and expensive, when especially in the US the auto industry is all in on producing gigantic shit tanks that have massive profit margins

@Zergling_man the solution is the ecological impact cars have, which is solved by having heavier cars that have highly explosive batteries inside. Only the greatest innovations from the "everything is computer" auto industry

@gray that checks out, most modern battery chemistries that I know of lose most of their capacity when it's cold.
The charging problem would theoretically be solved by having lower power public chargers everywhere in public parking spaces like they have in Paris. Though how that works for the fifth of the population that does not live in more urban areas is a mystery I'm not smart enough to solve

@deprecated_ii That's a fair point, they should be a choice that is probably better for some (those that live in mild climates, those that can easily and would want to charge at home) but yeah maybe forcing everyone to drive an EV always while batteries are stil shit is not a good idea no

Tesla evangelists are the special kind of retard that will take any complete shit Musk throws at them. Full self driving with only cameras coming 2018, 2022 and 2025 also robots and a weird private bus? And people still fall for it somehow
