SoupIngredients has a problem with cousins

Ah yes, the inevitable "Merida" comment.
Gets me every time. See it on Reddit 4x a week. Ignoring the fact most redditors can't tell a Scottish accents from Irish accents or Welsh accents or the like, I always wonder if you compare every single person you assume is Irish to Merida ? Do you think the entire country is made up of Meridas, or worthy of comparing to Merida? Or are they all Merida's cousins in your head? You know Merida isn't even a mythical character, but a literal cartoon.
That's like saying every woman or girl who is Latino with blonde curly hair is Shakira, or if their hair is brown and curly confidently remarking "Shakira's cousin!" Yes, great. You know who Shakira is, but why compare someone completely unrelated, except one or two features, to her?
Do you say "Moana." Or "Moana's cousin." every single time you see a Maori, Polynesian, Hawaiian, Tongan, Melanesian, Fijian, or Micronesian woman speak in a viral video? Do you call all boys who possibly have an Italian accent "Luca"?
It just seems so disrespectful to a person's individuality, and cultural identity, to assume and compare them to a celebrity or cartoon as if it is relevant at all! And half the time they are talking about Merida when the person isn't even Irish, like come on ... it's so thickheaded. She is beautiful in her own right, because she is funny and a good sport, and enjoying her life. It has nothing to do with anything to call every redhead or every girl with a UK accent "Merida".
Do you think people from the region make the same comparison every time they walk down the street and see their countrymen?
"Good day Merida!" " Why yes, nice weather isn't it Merida's cousin?" "Yes, your hair is looking awfully red today, you could be Merida's son!" "Why Merida's Uncle, thank you!" "Wow, you sure remind me of that American cartoon about US... Have you ever heard that once in your life since the film released?" "WHY YES! Son of a Merida! What a small world, I certainly do love it when people compare me to Merida every day, you could be Merida's brother in fact!" "Our regular speaking voice sure reminds me of that Disney character that actually talks in a very sanitized version of the English speaking accent of our neighbors in the country a few hundred miles North of here!" "Merida's hair! I think left the kettle on, great conversation! But I have to go. Thank you kindly, I almost forgot how Merida-like I am today! Take care!"
Stop it with the Merida already, give it a rest you lot. Stop typecasting humans as cartoon characters! It doesn't do anything for anyone but display that you saw a lovely movie once, but it isn't representative of anything meaningful to anyone!
Now go ahead, finish me off with your best "I don't care" or "whatever" comment you can muster. I'll take it. You're just the straw that broke the camel's back today and I had to release my built up tension about the whole Merida thing. I'll never comment on it again.
